Endorsements

eChallenges e-2005 took place in the Grand Hotel Union, Ljubljana, Slovenia 19 - 21 October 2005. There were over 590 delegates from 46 countries and 5 continents - 92 percent Europe, 8 percent from the Americas, Asia and Africa. Fifty percent of delegates were involved in European research projects with the other fifty percent involved in national, regional or industry funded research.

We are very pleased with the continuing increase in participation from government (23%), industry (17%), high-tech SMEs (12%) as it is vital that there is a true exchange between commercial organisations, government agencies and the research community.

Below we have provided a small sample of the many endorsements received from sponsors, presenters, workshop organisers, exhibitors and delegates following e-2005.

Feedback from Sponsors

"eChallenges e-2005 was a success largely due to the ability of the eChallenges Consortium to attract major global players in ICT related applied R&D and formulate a program rich in content, touching the cutting edge of R&D issues and focusing on the most important future trends, while insisting on high level academic performance as manifested in the excellent conference proceedings and documentation. For my colleagues in the Government of Slovenia, for the Slovenian research community and related businesses, the event was very valuable."

[Dr. Jure Zupan, Minister for Higher Education, Science and Technology, Slovenia]

Feedback from Presenters

"Thank you very much for organising such a brilliant conference. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and felt welcome, comfortable and well fed at all times. The event organisation (from our first contact) was fantastic and every time I spoke with any one of your team, I got a useful and helpful reply."

[Ed Mitchell, KnowledgeBoard Editor]

Feedback from Workshop Organisers

"May I congratulate you and your team for such a successful event. Having been a regular participant of eChallenges over many years, I am really glad to see the community and momentum that eChallenges has created, which not only helps foster a continuous open dialogue among stakeholders in Europe and beyond, but also provides opportunities for networking and collaboration across multiple disciplines and domains - crucial for mapping out problems and achieving meaningful, long-term solutions.

Based on my own experience in organising various large-scale European events, I recognise and appreciate the immense efforts and meticulous care invested by yourselves and your team into this annual flagship conference. I was particularly happy to see the new topics that have been introduced into this year's programme."

[Man-Sze Li, IC Focus, UK]

Feedback from Exhibitors

"I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you for organising such a successful event in Slovenia. I also like to extend my appreciation and gratitude for giving me a platform at eChallenges e-2005 to promote South African excellence in S&T, ESASTAP. Thank you for also introducing me to key people in the international ICT community. You ensured that I had a comfortable and fruitful stay in Slovenia and I really appreciate your care and hospitality."

[Anneline Morgan, Deputy Director, Strategic Partnerships, Department of Science and Technology, South Africa]

Feedback from Delegates

"I have attended the eChallenges conference for many years both as a participant and now as a member of the programme committee. The conference has always been a rather special event, small enough to talk with most everyone during the networking opportunities yet large enough to find the expertise you may need. Every year it seems to get better and better. The quality of the papers and presentations has risen remarkably and access to a broad cross section of knowledge has been strengthened. The offering of tutorials in the past few years in practical matters, from presentation techniques to team building, is specially appreciated by those of us who either are involved in projects (of all sorts) or must evaluate them.

The contacts I have made at eChallenges have allowed the Research Council of Norway to invite international evaluators to review our nationally funded projects. This makes our participation particularly rewarding as has been the opportunity to discover the state-of-the-art in various disciplines for use in building our programme focus."

[Kim Davis, Research Council of Norway]
