General Information

eChallenges e-2005 attracted over 590 delegates from 46 countries and 5 continents, representing government (23%), industry (17%), high-tech SMEs (12%) and research/academic organisations (48%). Opened by Dr Jure Zupan, Minister for Higher Education, Science and Technology, Slovenia and closed by Dr Janez Potocnik, European Commissioner for Science and Research, keynote speakers from Slovenia, Belgium, Ireland, Netherlands, USA and Japan, shared insights into current applied ICT challenges in government, business and research.

Continuing a trend of increasing international participation in the eChallenges Community, almost 8% of presenters this year were from outside Europe, compared to 4% at e-2004. By showcasing contributions on commercial, government or societal exploitation of the Internet and ICT from around the world, eChallenges provides a unique opportunity to gain a better appreciation of some of the cultural, technological and training issues impacting on global eAdoption today.
